Dating every cold balance entry

Why a number without a date becomes guesswork within a year — and a simple notebook habit that survives long gaps between device touches.

Cold storage invites long silence. You check a hardware device, write a figure, and close the drawer. Eighteen months later the figure is still on the page — but you cannot remember whether it was before or after a fee, a test send, or a change-address sweep.

The habit

Every balance line gets three parts: the date, the public address short label you use in your binder, and the figure as displayed on the device screen that day. If you rounded, write that you rounded.

Why it matters in a reconciliation

When SyncAnalyt sits with you to compare offline notes against public ledger totals, dated lines let us isolate which gap is a forgotten spend versus a simple transcription error. Undated lines force wider searches and longer sessions.

Copy that pattern for every touch — even when you only powered the device to confirm it still unlocks.
